Mobile money and your Zoolk wallet: what actually happens when you top up

July 14, 2026 · 5 min read

Zoolk's billing runs on an internal wallet ledger. Here's exactly what a mobile money payment does to your balance.

Every Zoolk account has a wallet — an internal ledger that tracks what you owe against your subscription and what you've paid. Understanding how it works makes billing a lot less mysterious.

Each billing period, your subscription charge is posted to the wallet as a debit. If your balance goes negative, that's not an error — it's how the system represents "this is currently owed." Depending on your plan's settings, a negative balance for too long moves your account into a grace period, and eventually suspension if it isn't addressed.

To pay it down, you top up your wallet with mobile money through a licensed payment provider. From inside the POS app, you choose an amount and pay with Airtel Money or TNM Mpamba, confirming the payment yourself. Once the provider confirms the payment went through, Zoolk posts a matching credit to your wallet — automatically, without anyone on our side manually processing it.

Every top-up and charge is recorded as a ledger entry, not just a balance number that changes silently. You can see the full history in the Billing section of the app: what was charged, when, and every payment that came in against it. If a top-up ever looks like it didn't land, that history is the first place to check, and it's also what our support team looks at if you need help.

The short version: your subscription charge debits the wallet, a mobile money or card top-up credits it, and the whole thing is a transparent, auditable ledger rather than a black box.
